In 1978, the band was initially managed by Gerry and the gigs
were those that were based on the connections he had made through
the band Sundown in the mid 1970's. Initially they used the name
California while pressing home the American connection. Playing
mostly pubs and the odd function it would take several months for
the band to attract the attention of both Tom Kelly (who managed the
Fairways) and also Hawk Records.
