The sheer profile of Benbulben dominates the landscape around Sligo like no other place in the world. Irish myth has Benbulben as the place where Fionn McCool finds as naked boy wandering the hills and later learns it is his own son, who he names Oisin.

Benbulben

Worn by time and the elements, the unmistakable profile of Benbulben faces westward into the setting sun.

From Cartron Point

Taken in 1978, this view of Benbulben is from Cartron Point. The water in the foreground is known as Horse Island and is exposed during low tide. The stone causeway at the water's edge is the main Sligo-Rosses Point Road.

From Cairns Hill

Sligo town with Benbulben in the background taken from Cairns Hill. On this beautiful summer day in 1984, the Hills of Donegal are clearly visible in the far distance just to the left of Benbulben.

Backside of the mountain

View of Benbulben from the north (or Donegal) side. The

effects of erosion are much more pronounced on this side of the mountain.

From Strandhill

The Atlantic Ocean on the left and the links of Strandhill Golf Club in the foreground provide the perfect setting for this photo of Benbulben.

From the West

The dramatic shape of Benbulben becomes more apparent when viewed directly from the West.
